Backup Your Files – Especially MySQL!

January6

Hey writers, blogger and anyone who does business. I remember when I took computer classes in 2nd grade and the teacher use to shout over and over again, “save your files!”

This is true with your online files as well. I’m using Time Machine to backup my computer files (although I’m paranoid my drive will fail after this happened to a friend) but it’s also important to backup your online files. If you have a blog, make sure the MySQL files – this is the database where all of your posts and information is stored – are backed up regularly. If the server goes down, your host may not have an extra copy.

Or in the case of JournalSpace a pissed off employee might nuke everything. Read about it on TechCrunch: JournalSpace Drama: All Data Lost Without Backup, Company Deadpooled.

How to Linkbait Your Blog

January5

From Wired.com comes a Wiki about How to Linkbait Your Blog to Popularity. Getting larger, more popular blogs to write about you, post your articles or simply link to you is a great way to get more hits. These are some great suggestions but they’re just a start.

Making “friends” with similar bloggers is where I would start.

“Working” On a Sunday

November16

I’m in the office on Sunday… again. While I find Sundays to be considerably less productive than the weekdays, it’s important to me to be in a place I am free of distractions to get things done. Coffeeshops work well for writing or doing about 45 minutes of work, but anything that requires phone calls, regualar Internet or spreading out (pretty much everything I do), I prefer my office.

Today I brought the dog for company. Here’s Josie playing with a makeshift dog toy (a wine cork) in the hallway. There’s a reason they’re called “Man’s Best Friend.”
